THE Plateau State government has begun the distribution of over 50,000 plastic desks and assorted textbooks to public schools across its 17 local councils.
At the ceremony held at Government Technical College, Bukuru, headquarters of Jos-South Local Council, Governor Jonah Jang disclosed that government was supporting efforts to systematically implement the strategic plan to completely turn around the education sector.
Jang restated that his government’s desire to resuscitate the education sector remained unshaken. To this end, according to him, mediocrity will be flushed out of classrooms in public schools, particularly through ensuring that all unqualified teachers are shown the way out of the system.
Also, a non-governmental organiszation, the Neo-Black Movement (NBM) of Africa, has donated books to some schools in Auchi, Edo State, with a pledge to continue to do so nationwide.
The donations were made on behalf of the pan-Africanist group by its newly-elected Head (Worldwide), Bemigho Bermuda Eyeoyibo, at the end of its convention in the town.
He said the group was undertaking “various humanitarian projects all over Africa and the Black Diaspora and in all nations members of this great race are found”.
“We have zones and members all over the world,” he added.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Hayward Mafuyai, has said that the institution was prepared partner with any group or organisation whose agenda was to add value to its smooth running.
He spoke at this year’s scholarship award ceremony under the Gender-Intervention Team and the Carnegie Partnership Programme held at the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Secretariat.
The Gender Intervention Team and the Carnegie Partnership Programme through the female support initiatives of the university has over the years been issuing scholarships to less-privileged female students. http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8241\
